Energy calculator
Assumes constant power while operating; actual cycling appliances may use less.
Energy (kWh) = power (W) ÷ 1,000 × time (h)
Watts measure power, the rate of energy use. Kilowatt-hours measure total energy used over time.
Worked example
A 500 W device running for 4 hours uses 0.5 kW × 4 h = 2 kWh. A kWh is not a rate or a number of watts per hour.
Try it with your own numbers
Use the Energy Calculator to check another example. Read the input labels carefully and keep units consistent.
Before you use the answer
Choose the correct starting quantity and keep full precision until the final step. An arithmetic result describes the numbers entered; the usefulness of the result depends on accurate measurements and the assumptions in the calculation.
