Percentage change
(100 − 80) ÷ 80 × 100. A negative result is a decrease.
Change = (new − original) ÷ original × 100
Percentage points measure the difference between two percentages. Percent change measures that difference relative to the starting percentage.
Worked example
An increase from 10% to 15% is 5 percentage points, but a 50% relative increase because 5 ÷ 10 × 100 = 50%.
